The City if NMB became a city in 1968 and all 4 towns came together to become North Myrtle Beach. The Fire Department ran out of 3 stations at that time. Cherry Grove, Windy Hill and the former city hall at 18th Ave. S. The present main station was built in 1972 and the Fire Department moved from the old city hall to the new station on Second Ave. At the old city hall location the Firefighters slept in the old jail cells while on duty.

The North Myrtle Beach Fire and Rescue Department has grown in number to five stations with over 140 full-time, volunteers and PSO's members serving a population of over 15,000. Our Department is committed to serving the Citizens of North Myrtle Beach through Fire Prevention and Safety Education that gives our community the knowledge needed to protect life, property, and our environment.

Janurary 1, 2008 Firefighters formed Union 4637 to establish a tool to improve the working and living conditions in the Fire Dept.
